They are using <\/span><b>generative <a class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Artifical intelligence is a set of computing systems programmed to reproduce human intelligence.&lt;\/div&gt;\"  href=\"https:\/\/blog.laval-virtual.com\/en\/glossary\/artificial-intelligence\/\"  target=\"_blank\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'  tabindex='0' role='link'>artificial intelligence<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to blur our perception of reality. With interactivit&eacute; and <\/span><b>motion capture<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> technology, this digital artwork is a confrontation of AI&rsquo;s chaotic nature and the wonder of art. &ldquo;Your Digital Reflection&rdquo; is part of the Recto VRso <\/span><b>immersive art <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">festival (April 10-13, 2025).<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">At the convergence of multiple disciplines and media<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&ldquo;Your Digital Reflection&rdquo; is first and foremost a <\/span><b>collective of five artists<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Sam Egan, Ga&euml;l Didier, Assia Mustelli Chabane, Youn&egrave;s Guilmot and Morgane Pellerin. They&rsquo;re all French but with different backgrounds. They&rsquo;re either dancers, digital artists, musicians, 3D designers or researchers. Together, their influences create a smooth blend of surrealisme, sociology, queer art, body semiology and digital art.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The result of this collaboration is an artwork combining video mapping, artificial intelligence and interactivity. &ldquo;Your Digital Reflection&rdquo; is a <\/span><b>physical installation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where someone are in front of a mirror and interacts with it. Thanks to a webcam and a Leap Motion tracker, the movement of the <a class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph {&amp;quot;translatedWithWPMLTM&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;1&amp;quot;} --&amp;gt;a term borrowed from Brazilian theatre director Augusto Boal, who theorised it in the 1970s with his &amp;quot;Theatre of the Oppressed&amp;quot;. It describes someone who is neither a passive spectator nor a full actor, but occupies an in-between position: moving, interacting, and participating in the experience without being its main character. Backlight uses this concept to describe the place of the audience in its VR experiences, where one is too active to be a mere spectator, but never sole master of the narrative.&amp;lt;br\/&amp;gt;&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\"  href=\"https:\/\/blog.laval-virtual.com\/en\/glossary\/spect-actor\/\"  target=\"_blank\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'  tabindex='0' role='link'>spect-actor<\/a> change the scene, enhanced <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.laval-virtual.com\/en\/artwork-disappearance-recto-vrso-2024\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by the influence of generative AI<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The mirror acts as a <\/span><b>portal to another universe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, another temporality.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With this artwork, the collective of artists explores the unpredictability of AI and its ability for <\/span><b>endless creation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It can generate another universe &ndash; the digital reflection of the viewer &ndash; without any limits and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ad infinitum<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In the end, it shapes &ldquo;<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">surreal, absurd and surprising versions of the visitors<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&rdquo;, as the installation&rsquo;s creators explain.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An increasingly unpredictable and hybrid art form<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this way, the artwork perfectly reflects the theme of this year&rsquo;s exhibition: <\/span><b>Pop Chaos<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.&nbsp; The artists focus on both surprise and wonder. &ldquo;<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The AI&rsquo;s capacity to &ldquo;hallucinate&rdquo; and &ldquo;dream&rdquo; reflects the chaotic nature of non-standardized intelligence and generative systems, inviting viewers to embrace uncertainty and play with new, fluid representations of themselves<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&rdquo;.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It&rsquo;s no coincidence that the full name of the artwork is &ldquo;Your Digital Reflection is (maybe) an Illusion&rdquo;. The portal blurs the realities and the temporalities. The only physical presence in the experience is the mirror object, hand-modeled with different materials. This element brings back the spectator on Earth, after <\/span><b>traveling in the unreal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and imagination. Before, he was in an interspace, where hybrid forms and uncertainty rule.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&ldquo;Your Digital Reflection&rdquo; was created during a workshop at Laval Virtual 2024, with the support of Universit&eacute; Paris 8. Since the first prototype, the installation has been exhibited last June at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bainsnumeriques.fr\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bains Num&eacute;riques<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the international biennial of digital arts. The final version will be seen for the second time at the Recto VRso<\/span><b> immersive art festival<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on April 10-13, 2025.
