Supported by the European Commission, XR2Learn is a project that aims to democratise the creation and use of XR applications for education. XR2Learn provides a platform to connect developers, designers, suppliers, education experts, decision-makers and users. XR2Learn will be present at Laval Virtual on April 10-12, 2024, on booth A5. Interview with Ioannis Chatzigiannakis, one of the coordinators of the XR2Learn project.

Can you introduce your company?

Funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe Programme, XR2Learn aims to establish cross-border creation of human-centric XR applications in education. The project will deliver its one-stop shop platform, organised as a Digital Innovation Hub, for all actors involved in the XR-based educational applications supply chain, aimed at enhancing training in manufacturing and distance learning scenarios.

By leveraging the European XR industry technologies to empower immersive learning and training, XR2Learn platform will bring XR technology providers, application designers, education experts, application developers, end-users and decision makers in direct access to communicate, collaborate and matchmake interests enabling also bottom up innovation creation.

What will your company show at Laval Virtual 2024?

XR2Learn has created a platform for collaborative creation of human-centric XR applications in education around which there is already a XR2Learn community envisioning to include all types of actors involved in the XR-based educational application value chain. It embraces the various groups involved in the XR2Learn ecosystem and their role in the XR technologies uptake, such as XR developers, EdTech Innovators, training organizations, end users.

What is your company’s current project?

By leveraging the European XR industry technologies to empower immersive learning and training, XR2Learn innovative approach includes the creation of XR platform that will allow stakeholders to engage in bottom-up creation of XR application by enabling them to communicate, collaborate and matchmake interests. Moreover, XR2Learn offers 2 rounds of Open Calls – equity-free funding, as well as business development and technical support via 2 Open Calls focused on delivering human-centric XR applications in education. The second one is about to be launched this autumn.

What innovation do you think has most transformed the world of VR/AR?

Being an EU-funded project focused on XR technologies this is a clear sign that the European Union acknowledges the increasing importance of this technology for the innovation ecosystem of US’s economy. XR2Learn goes a little further by bringing technological achievements in XR into education in order to boost the training programmes and to bring them into a new dimension.
