To make XR experiences more immersive, there are a number of solutions. Optical tracking is one of them. Advanced Realtime Tracking has made this its credo, offering optical and motion tracking systems to enhance virtual reality experiences. ART will be present at the Laval Virtual VR / AR trade show on April 9-11, 2025.
Can you tell us more about your company?
Advanced Realtime Tracking (ART) is an expert for optical tracking and innovative object localization. Since 1999, Advanced Realtime Tracking GmbH & Co. KG is one of the leading manufacturers of premium optical motion tracking systems for Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR). Typical customers and users are the automotive and aviation industries as well as research institutes and universities.
We meet market requirements for the tracking of tools (“Tool Tracking”) with various technologies from the product areas DTRACK and VERPOSE. All ART products are highly precise, reliable in use and can be customized.
What will you exhibit at Laval Virtual?
It is essential that a fully immersive Virtual Reality experience should be both accurate and comfortable to use. When merging with real-world objects, VR representations have to precisely match reality. This means that the used motion tracking system must provide a reliable and repeatable high accuracy for the overlay as well as a low latency for a natural immersion.
So why not combine ART’s professional high tracking quality with the comfortable and easy to use HMD experience? ART will show a simplified HMD setup with selected hardware and software.
Are you planning any activities or demos at your booth?
We will provide an interactive demonstration in which visitors can get their hands on and experience tracking for various HMDs. ART will highlight DTRACK3 and SMARTTRACK3, including our clip-on approach for HMD targets.
Does your company have an upcoming project to share with us and our visitors?
ART has always been committed to developing and delivering state of the art products that offer an added value in many use-cases. At the same time, we always had an interest in extending our system with peripherals that are deeply integrated in our system so, that users wouldn’t have to invest precious time in evaluating and then combining various products. Currently we are assessing our complete product portfolio in order to find out which products and solutions bring the most value added to our existing customer base and beyond. So stay interested and tuned in for what’s about to come.
How is your solution transforming your business field?
I think the most impact we have seen in the past 25 years that ART has been around is the virtualizing of many processes in automotive development and design. Companies are much faster developing products and ensuring high quality from the beginning by using XR technologies. Meanwhile, XR technologies are being seen more and more in production planning and on the shop floor. ART supports all areas with their wide product portfolio.
Especially, but not limited to, automotive companies require tracking solution for (very) large spaces of 100m² and more. In those volumes, car clinics are carried out, design decisions are made or new production sites are planned.
Sustainability and the environment are key topics of this century. How do you cope with these concerns in your XR technologies?
Our products are designed in a way to have a minimum power consumption i.e., only what’s needed. Once used in turnkey solutions, our products support in reducing resources, for example by making real prototypes obsolete, avoid mistakes during production or by testing cars in simulators and not on the road. Virtualizing is good and helpful under many aspects and should be used wherever possible and when it’s making full sense.
