The École de Design Nantes Atlantique is one of France’s leading design schools. At the start of the 2024 academic year, it moved into the Laval Virtual Center facilities and created four new immersive design courses. As part of its commitment to immersive experiences, the École de design Nantes Atlantique has become a regular exhibitor at Laval Virtual. On April 9-11, it will be there to present the innovative projects of its students.
Can you tell us more about your company?
L’École de Design Nantes Atlantique is a higher education institution specializing in design and innovation, founded in 1988. With a strong academic and professional foundation, it trains designers capable of addressing contemporary challenges through transdisciplinary approaches. Its Digital Design Lab explores the potential of immersive technologies (XR, VR, AR) in fields such as training, healthcare, culture, and industrial innovation.
What will you exhibit at Laval Virtual?
At Laval Virtual 2025, we will showcase projects from our master’s students in the Digital Design program, specializing in immersive user experiences. Among them, an innovative project carried out with SDIS 44 (Loire-Atlantique Fire and Rescue Service) focuses on emergency design, rethinking the future of firefighter training centers through an immersive and interactive approach.
Are you planning any activities or demos at your booth?
L’École de Design Nantes Atlantique will also offer visitors an immersive demonstration of a virtual library, designed by our students in partnership with Tech4Art, which reinvents how portfolios are discovered using virtual reality. Equipped with the Meta Quest 3 headset, visitors will explore an interactive space where projects come to life, providing a new way to browse creative content. Beyond portfolios, this approach opens new possibilities in fields such as museums, real estate, and commerce.
Does your company have innovation insights to share with us and our visitors?
The Digital Lab explores the key role of emergency designers in managing crises and unexpected situations. The project conducted with SDIS 44 is a concrete example, examining how XR can enhance firefighter training by simulating realistic emergency situations. The goal is to design an effective learning framework, facilitating skill acquisition in a safe and adaptable environment.
How is your solution transforming your business field?
In the training and education sector, our immersive solutions are transforming how skills are acquired and assessed. Through VR and AR, our students design environments where learners can practice in complex and engaging situations, reducing costs and risks while optimizing the retention of procedures and techniques. These innovations are particularly beneficial for sectors such as security, industry, and healthcare.
Sustainability and the environment are key topics of this century. How do you cope with these concerns in your XR technologies?
The environmental impact of immersive technologies is a major concern. At L’École de Design Nantes Atlantique, we raise awareness among our students about eco-design in digital systems, encouraging responsible approaches such as optimizing resources, reducing energy consumption of devices and developing sustainable digital content.
We also explore how XR can be used to promote environmental awareness, particularly through immersive experiences that help users understand the impacts of climate change and encourage more responsible behaviors.
