Vigo Creative is a Belgian design studio specialising in gaming and training. Its main products are serious games and virtual reality training, with the aim of making these experiences as immersive as possible. The team will be at Laval Virtual on April 10-12, 2024, on booth A26. Interview with Christophe Hermanns, CEO of Vigo Creative.
Can you introduce your company?
Vigo Creative is a video game development studio founded in 2016 and focused on virtual reality entertainment and education. We specialise in creating immersive experiences accessible to a wide audience. We develop arcade games, serious games and complex free-roaming multiplayer solutions. We have launched more than 15 VR games since 2016, designed in particular for specific training requirements or leisure venues. But our experience in virtual reality had already begun in 2013 with the development of a VR lunar walking application set up in an educational park (The Euro Space Center), a European first! With our small, creative team, our aim is to use our games to create powerful emotions!
When it comes to serious games, virtual reality is an exceptional learning tool for integrating complex procedures and training your teams in an immersive way. It immerses you in situations that are difficult to reproduce in the real world, making it a valuable addition to your traditional training programmes. VIGO Creative has 3 core activities: the development of virtual/mixed reality serious games, 3D digitisation and 3D printing, and the development of virtual/mixed reality video games. We have chosen to be active in these three sectors because of the similarities between them.
In addition to these 3 key sectors, customers also call on us for complex development work on high added-value, tailor-made interactive applications (for example, a satellite repair simulation for an educational space centre, or an interactive marketing application for customising Formula-E cars using sensor systems, for an event in Bahrain).
What will your company show at Laval Virtual 2024?
We will be presenting our custom VR/MR development services. We will be highlighting our expertise in the creation of serious virtual reality games for training and also the development of arcade games for Location-Based Entertainment (LBE). Our team will be available to discuss potential projects, present demonstrations of our past achievements and our solutions for integrating virtual reality into various sectors of activity.
What is your company’s current project?
Among other projects, our studio is currently working on the first virtual reality game based on the Smurfs licence. This will be distributed in leisure centres and other areas dedicated to virtual reality in the coming months. At the same time, we are also developing a solution to help train emergency services in very specific and dangerous on-site interventions.
What innovation do you think has most transformed the world of VR/AR?
3D engines have played a major role in transforming and advancing the world of virtual reality and augmented reality. 3D engines (such as Unity and Unreal Engine) have democratised the creation of virtual and augmented reality content, enabling a greater number of developers to explore and contribute to these technologies. Their accessibility has led to an increase in the amount of content available in VR/AR, which has contributed to its adoption and expansion across diverse sectors such as gaming, education, training, medicine, entertainment and many others.
