Originally a surveying firm, AGEIS also offers BIM and 3D services for professionals in urban planning, real estate and construction. Its modeling and photogrammetry solutions are also used to help preserve and restore France’s historic heritage. We spoke to Gwénaël Quéré, 3D Business Manager, to discuss AGEIS’s next ambitions and its participation in the Laval Virtual VR / AR exhibition.

Can you tell us more about your company?

AGEIS is a surveying firm with several areas of expertise in the fields of real estate, topography, condominiums, urban planning, the environment, VRD design/execution, 3D scanner surveys, BIM modeling and photogrammetry.

What will you exhibit at Laval Virtual?

At its booth at Laval Virtual, AGEIS will be presenting a number of projects carried out in recent years, along with the technical solutions employed. The projects presented will focus mainly on the company’s 3D division, i.e. mapping existing structures using 3D scanners, photogrammetry, BIM modeling and even 3D or VR immersion.

These projects have several objectives, ranging from the visualization of technical constraints on a site for a neighborhood rehabilitation project, to precision scanning, to the implementation of a new industrial process, to immersion in a heritage site.

Are you planning any activities or demos at your booth?

Several projects will be presented in different ways. We’re planning immersions in several buildings in virtual reality, as well as 3D virtual tours.

Does your company have an upcoming project to share with us and our visitors?

We have been working for several years to adapt our expertise to the needs of different projects. Our 3D approach is first and foremost technical, with the modeling and visualization of constraints on renovation projects. This enables us to anticipate renovation issues as far as possible. It is also aesthetically oriented, thanks to immersions in heritage buildings, in order to conserve or renovate this heritage as best as possible. The project that took us several months to complete this year involved modeling a neighborhood in the Paris region, in order to provide the basis for a complete rehabilitation of the area.

How is your solution transforming your business field?

As far as the technical side of our business is concerned, we at AGEIS are convinced that most of the problems encountered today in the building or urban planning sector on renovation and rehabilitation sites are linked to the fact that we are unable to visualize and anticipate certain technical constraints. Our aim is to use our products to help you anticipate as many problems as possible and visualize them in three dimensions. The other part of our expertise enables us to preserve certain buildings that represent our country’s heritage and history.

Sustainability and the environment are key topics of this century. How do you cope with these concerns in your XR technologies?

Our skills enable us to take a 3D snapshot at any given moment of the condition of the buildings and sites we measure. In recent years, these surveying methods have proved their worth in terms of conservation, notably with the restoration of Notre Dame de Paris, which, for its renovation, made partial use of 3D scanner surveys carried out in the final years before the fire.

AGEIS has always had an innovative environmental approach, focusing on water management for the design of housing estates over the last ten years. As mentioned above, we are firmly convinced that our 3D expertise enables us to anticipate environmental issues by integrating them into our projects in three dimensions.
