Every year, the Laval Virtual Awards ceremony rewards the best VR / AR projects of the year. In 2024, twelve prizes were given to highlight immersive companies and XR creators. Among the winning projects, there is VEE in the category “Virtual Worlds & Metaverse”, with the ambition to transform the AEC industry by using the metaverse. Interview with Francesco Cappilli, Founder and Engineering Director of BIMaking Engineering.

Can you present the project that received a prize at the Laval Virtual Awards 2024 ?

VEE (Virtual Environment Eyes) project has the potential to revolutionize the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry in a number of ways. Some of the potential applications are design and collaboration, virtual tours, construction training and maintenance and repair.

First, architects and engineers can use metaverse to design and collaborate on construction projects in a virtual environment. This would enable them to see their projects within a more realistic framework, and to quickly identify and resolve potential problems.

Also, customers can use the metaverse to take virtual tours of buildings prior to construction. This allows them to better understand the space and make changes to the design before it’s too late.

Construction workers can use the metaverse to learn new techniques and equipment. This would improve safety and efficiency on the site. At last, the metaverse can be used to monitor and maintain buildings in real time. This would identify problems at an early stage and avoid costly repairs.

The metaverse is still in its infancy, but it has the potential to transform the architecture and construction industry. As the technology develops, we can expect to see even more innovative applications.

What was your motivation when applying for the Laval Virtual Awards?

Our company is at the forefront of revolutionizing the AEC industry through the power of the metaverse and proptech. We believe that our innovative solution has the potential to transform the way buildings are designed, constructed, and managed globally.

By participating in the Laval Virtual Awards, we aim to showcase our groundbreaking technology to a global audience of industry leaders and investors; strengthen our brand reputation as a pioneer in the metaverse and proptech space; forge strategic partnerships with key players in the AEC industry to accelerate our international expansion; gain valuable insights from the judging panel and fellow nominees to further refine our product and market strategy.

Ultimately, our goal is to establish ourselves as a leading provider of metaverse and proptech solutions for the AEC industry worldwide.

How did you experience your first participation in Europe’s biggest XR event?

Our first virtual experience at the largest XR event in Europe was truly out of this world! While we couldn’t be there in person, the immersive experience was nothing short of extraordinary. The innovations and creativity we witnessed have left us eager to dive deeper into the XR universe. We’re already counting down the days until we can experience the next edition in person!

What were the benefits of this award given by a jury of international experts?

This prestigious award, conferred by a panel of international experts, has catapulted our company onto the global stage. The recognition has opened doors to unparalleled networking opportunities, connecting us with industry visionaries who are shaping the future of XR.

Our visibility has soared, resulting in a significant increase in leads and inquiries from both domestic and international markets. It has been an honor to share our expertise at renowned events like Unreal Fest 2022 and BIM Coordinator Summit 2023 where we were speakers and where we’ve forged strategic partnerships with like-minded innovators!

The Awards ceremony’s theme was “magic”. If you could wave your magic wand and create the VR solution of your dreams, what would it be?

If we could wave a magic wand and create the ultimate VR solution, it would be a hyper-realistic metaverse capable of seamlessly connecting people from different cities and countries. Imagine being able to attend a global conference, not from a single physical location, but from a meticulously recreated 3D model of iconic landmarks around the world.

This event would offer real-time collaboration where participants could engage in real-time discussions, collaborate on projects, and network with colleagues from around the globe, all within a shared virtual space. By leveraging advanced haptics and spatial audio, we could create incredibly immersive experiences that make users feel as if they were truly present in the virtual environment. Users could customize their avatars, environments, and experiences to suit their individual preferences and needs. The platform would be accessible to users with varying levels of technical expertise, ensuring that anyone could participate.

With such a solution, we could revolutionize the events industry by eliminating the need for physical venues. We could reduce our carbon footprint and make events more accessible to a global audience. The metaverse would provide a unique platform for people from diverse backgrounds to connect and share ideas. The development and maintenance of such a platform would create numerous jobs and drive economic growth.

This is just a glimpse of the potential of VR. By combining the power of technology with human creativity, we can build a more connected and collaborative future.
