Photon makes it simple to build and launch immersive experiences or AAA-grade multiplayer games with Unity and Unreal by providing the benchmark for State-Sync and Deterministic multiplayer engines with Photon Fusion, Photon Quantum and Photon Voice.
Beyond gaming, leading Fortune 500 enterprises leverage Photon for dynamic real-time applications across digital twins, collaboration applications, operations, and a plethora of immersive experiences in AR/VR. With decades of success running the best games in the world, Photon’s reliability and accuracy are ideal for real-world applications. Photon’s premium development support accelerates the development process with access to a large number of samples encapsulating best practices for seamless multi-user experiences, exclusively available to the Photon Industries community.
What will your company show at Laval Virtual 2024?
Laval Virtual 2024 will be the official stage for the launch of our new mixed reality cross-platform samples for the Photon community that are aimed at improving any multi-user apps, such as simulations, trainings, meetings, Metaverse experiences, events but also games. We are going to launch the new mixed reality cross-platform sample and its source code to the Photon community for free. The code will help to accelerate the development of cross-platform experiences between the Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest 3. During our tech talk at the conference, we are going to demonstrate on stage, how to easily craft a cross-platform shared immersive experience from scratch. We will release new samples to our community on a regular basis. These samples include best practice patterns and reference implementations that dramatically shorten development timelines.
What is your company’s current innovation?
Our most recent innovation will allow developers to more easily create mixed reality cross-platform experiences for both the Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest 3. Similar to PCs or Smartphones, we believe that cross-platform multi-user experiences will be a key component to drive adoption with immersive technologies and that it will dramatically increase the reach and audience for developers. Imagine if developing cross-platform immersive experiences will become as easy as creating mobile apps and work across multiple XR devices. We see this as a game-changer that will move the industry forward. Our free sample will allow the XR community to take a big step in this direction and allow them to design cross-platform experiences that can be joined from the Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest headsets. Photon strongly believes in the value that shared experiences bring, across any medium or platform. Reducing the friction to make shared multiplayer experiences possible is our passion.
What innovation do you think has most transformed the world of VR/AR?
With many advances in the XR industry, most noticeably the speed of new hardware coming to the market, the users are no longer tied to a workstation and can move freely around their space without the need of external sensors. With this freedom, the VR/AR technologies will radically transform the future workplace as we are no longer limited to a 2D flat screen. An infinite spatial canvas will allow us to interact with people near and far away in completely new ways and there will be many new types of interactions (Voice, Hands, Eyes etc.).Multi-user cross-platform experiences will be another critical step that will transform the world of VR/AR.
The baseline of our 26th edition is “Act For The Future”. In your opinion, how can immersive technologies impact the world of tomorrow?
Immersive technologies allow humans – for the first time since computing – to take physical actions beyond taps and clicks. The human body is free to move and able to literally ACT. Imagine human actions in shared immersive worlds. Above all, immersive technologies will give us more choice of how we can make these shared experiences, meetings and other forms of social interaction more meaningful. We want to enable these shared experiences that will help us to act and connect in all kinds of new ways.
