Created as part of a program launched by the European Commission, the XR2Learn project aims to improve the education sector through immersive technologies. The project teams have developed a platform that connects developers and educators to facilitate the creation of immersive educational content. At this year’s Laval Virtual exhibition, XR2Learn will present several virtual reality projects, particularly in the fields of healthcare and industry. We spoke with Vukasin Orsic, Project Manager at XR2Learn.

What is the goal of the XR2Learn project?

XR2Learn is a Horizon Europe project advancing Extended Reality (XR) in education and training. It combines evidence-based pedagogy with immersive technologies, supporting developers and educators in co-designing impactful XR learning experiences. Through open tools, enablers, and a collaborative ecosystem, XR2Learn accelerates innovation and real-world adoption of XR across industry and academia.

What would you like to share with visitors to Laval Virtual?

XR2Learn project will present its results – from XR-based applications in education, one-stop shop platform for all actors involved in the XR-based educational applications supply chain, aimed at enhancing training in manufacturing and distance learning scenarios, to our Open Call winning projects and their various XR solutions.

What demonstrations will be featured at your booth?

NEONATAL is developing immersive XR-based training solutions to strengthen neonatal resuscitation skills among healthcare professionals. By simulating high-pressure clinical scenarios, the project enhances procedural accuracy, decision-making, and teamwork in life-critical situations.

X-DE-MAN applies XR training to the de-manufacturing sector for consumer electronics. Through immersive learning and real-time operational guidance, it improves operator resilience, safety, and efficiency while supporting circular economy principles and Industry 5.0 objectives.

Portal-XR focuses on transforming port operator training by creating realistic VR environments for high-risk operations such as crane handling, hazardous materials management, and emergency response. The solution reduces operational downtime, enhances safety, and lowers training costs.

What new projects are currently underway at XR2Learn?

XR2Learn is currently developing an integrated ecosystem that combines immersive XR technologies with evidence-based pedagogical design to improve how training applications are created and deployed. The innovation lies not only in producing XR applications, but in structuring the full pipeline — from instructional design frameworks to personalization enablers, data-driven evaluation, and NFT-enabled IPR handling.

We are advancing tools that allow developers to embed learning objectives, adaptive pathways, and assessment mechanisms directly into XR simulations. In parallel, we are validating real-world use cases in healthcare, industry, and education to demonstrate scalable and sustainable XR training models.

How are the XR2Learn teams helping to advance the education and training sectors?

In the sector of XR-enabled education and professional training, our solution is transforming how immersive learning experiences are designed, validated, and scaled. Rather than focusing solely on XR content creation, XR2Learn introduces a structured methodology that embeds pedagogical frameworks, adaptive learning pathways, and measurable assessment mechanisms directly into XR applications.

Concrete examples include neonatal resuscitation training (NEONATAL), where immersive simulations improve clinical readiness; industrial de-manufacturing training (X-DE-MAN), enhancing safety and efficiency in circular economy workflows; and port operations training (Portal-XR), reducing operational risk through realistic virtual environments.

By integrating personalization tools, synthetic data generation, and real-time evaluation mechanisms, XR2Learn ensures that XR training is not only immersive, but educationally effective, scalable, and aligned with real-world performance outcomes.
