Every year, the Laval Virtual Awards ceremony rewards the best VR / AR projects of the year. In 2024, twelve prizes were given to highlight immersive companies and XR creators. Among the winning projects, NAWO Live in the category « Enterprise & Productivity Solution », a software package that combines motion capture, artificial intelligence, video stream and virtual reality for ergonomics in the workplace. Interview with Anthony Ribot, Project Manager at HRV Simulation.

Can you introduce your company?

Founded in 2013, HRV Simulation is a French innovation company specialized in the development of technology solutions combining haptics, virtual reality (VR) and motion capture. It stands out for its expertise in the creation of simulation software for healthcare and industry, with a clear mission: improve learning, ergonomics and training thanks to immersive and interactive technologies.

HRV Simulation is managed by Arnaud Cosson, Founder and CEO, with a fifteen-person team, including 10 people dedicated to research and development. HRV Simulation uses 3 key technologies: haptics, virtual reality and motion capture.

First, haptics rendering algorithms simulate precise tactile sensations, especially for dental surgery simulators that offer a realistic training experience. Next, VR is used to create immersive environments for medical training and industrial design. At last, motion capture analyses and reproduces human movements for ergonomic evaluation and musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) prevention.

HRV Simulation symbolizes technological innovation for training and healthcare. With interactive and immersive solutions, the company is transforming the learning and evaluation methods, while being a key player in the global simulation market.

Can you present the project that received a prize at the Laval Virtual Awards 2024 ?

Nawo is a software suite that objectively measures MSD risk factors, based on ergonomic assessment standards and reference methods. Nawo uses motion capture technology, virtual reality and video stream to evaluate risk factors.

The Nawo Live solution uses artificial intelligence to capture the operators’ postures in the work environment with video stream and a camera. Automated reconstruction and calculation of joint angles enable standardized, objective and automated analysis of biomechanical risk factors.

A cartography of all the risk factors is made and exported as a report for each workstation analyzed, which is ideal to create the right action plan based on identified risks. The Nawo solution can be integrated in Lean Management methods to improve performance while always prioritizing operators’ well-being.

What was your motivation when applying for the Laval Virtual Awards?

We submitted our project to the Laval Virtual Awards for several reasons. First, the Awards represent an international recognition for innovation in virtual reality and immersive technologies.

As a company at the cutting edge of haptics and VR, our participation was an opportunity to highlight our innovative solutions such as Virteasy (our dental surgery simulator) and Nawo (our ergonomic analysis software).

Besides, the Laval Virtual Awards are the perfect time to talk with experts, partners and potential clients, while reinforcing our position on the global market.

How did you experience your first participation in Europe’s biggest XR event?

Although it’s not our first participation at Laval Virtual, each edition is a unique and rich experience. This year, we particularly liked the energy and the diversity of the projects presented, as well as the discussions with other players in the XR ecosystem.

The event is an opportunity to strengthen our network, discover the latest technological trends and present our innovations to an international audience. The atmosphere at the exhibition, combined with the quality of the contacts made, are another proof of the importance of Laval Virtual as a must-attend event for our sector.

What were the benefits of this award given by a jury of international experts?

This Award had a significant impact on our business. First, it has raised our profile on the international scene, attracting the attention of new customers and partners. It has also strengthened our credibility and positioning as an innovative player in VR and haptics.

HRV Simulation won the Award in the category: “Enterprise & Productivity Solution”

The Awards ceremony’s theme was “magic”. If you could wave your magic wand and create the VR solution of your dreams, what would it be?

If we had a magic wand, we would create a VR solution which combines ultimate realistic haptics, artificial intelligence and universal accessibility.

This solution could simulate physical environments and interactions with unequalled precision, while being able to adapt to specific needs of every user, whether they are doing medical training, industrial design or physical therapy.

It would be intuitive, portable and affordable, bringing the benefits of VR and haptics to a wide audience, with no technical or financial barriers. All in all, a solution that would push back the limits of immersion and interaction, while having a positive impact on society.
