Known in the immersive sector for its olfactory device to be integrated into virtual reality experiences, Olfy is a Laval-based start-up created in 2021. Olfy first came to international attention at the Laval Virtual exhibition that same year, where it won an award. Four years on, Olfy’s ambitions have grown, and founder Clothilde Dubernet aims to spread her innovation beyond the immersive technology sector.

Can you tell us more about your company?

OLFY is a company specializing in the integration of olfactory experiences within virtual and interactive environments. Founded in 2021, our mission is to enrich immersion by adding a unique sensory dimension: smells.

We have a wide range of services for different business areas, such as professional training, entertainment, education, research, events and marketing. We help our clients in adding odours to their projects, whether it’s for virtual reality or augmented reality applications, or other interactive experiences. Our expertise is based on innovative technologies that enable precise, synchronized fragrance diffusion, creating an unforgettable multi-sensory immersion.

At OLFY, we believe in the power of virtual reality to transform the way we learn, work and interact. Our team of passionate and expert people is committed to guide our clients in conducting ambitious projects with a combination of creativity and technological performance.

What will you exhibit at Laval Virtual?

During this edition of Laval Virtual event, OLFY invites you to explore olfactory innovation with two dedicated spaces.

First at booth A41, we will present our company and our latest products. The visitors can discover how we integrate smells in immersive experiences, and how we support our clients in creating unique and memorable moments, especially in the event and marketing sectors.

Also at booth XP5, we are offering an exclusive sensory immersion. Visitors can experience a concrete example of an olfactory experience created by one of our clients. This demonstration will show how smells can transform a virtual experience into a captivating multi-sensory journey.

Are you planning any activities or demos at your booth?

To try a demo, visitors can go to booth XP5. The experience “From the land of Pount to the banks of the Nile: scents of Egypt” will be presented. It’s an olfactory and visual immersion that transports participants through the history and enchanting scents of ancient Egypt. This demonstration shows how smells can enrich an immersive experience and create a strong emotional connection with the audience.

Does your company have an upcoming project to share with us and our visitors?

Right now, OLFY is focusing on the diversification of its solutions to expand olfactory experiences beyond virtual reality. One of our key projects is the development of connected diffusers, an innovative technology that synchronizes scents with physical environments, multimedia contents or real-time events.

These diffusers open up new perspectives by making olfactory immersion accessible to varied contexts, while keeping optimal precision and synchronization.

By exploring new markets, OLFY keeps pushing the boundaries of sensory immersion, while continuing its missions to enrich experiences with the power of smells.

How is your solution transforming your business field?

At OLFY, our objective is the same for every sector that we work with, which is to improve immersion of experiences by adding an olfactory dimension. Smells have a unique power to arouse emotions, enhance memorization and create deep connections with the audience.

Let’s take the example of the cultural sector with the experience created for the Cairo Museum to enrich an exhibition about ancient Egypt. Thanks to our synchronized olfactory devices, visitors discovered emblematic scents of this time, like incense, myrrh and lotus. This multi sensory immersion transformed the visit into a memorable experience and enhanced the visitors’ commitment.

Sustainability and the environment are key topics of this century. How do you cope with these concerns in your XR technologies?

At OLFY, we are aware of the environmental challenges and integrate these preoccupations when developing our immersive technologies. We use natural fragrances that are environmentally friendly and free from endocrine disruptors, in order to minimize our ecological impact while ensuring a safe and pleasant olfactory experience. Moreover, our olfactory capsules are rechargeable, which reduces waste and encourages circular economy. Finally, we keep imports to a minimum by working with local companies, reducing our carbon footprint while supporting the regional economy.
