Specializing in the aeronautics sector, startup SKYREAL offers immersive solutions for industrial engineering. Thanks to its 15 years’ experience, SKYREAL has been able to identify the needs of industry leaders and enable them to integrate and use virtual reality to their advantage. Last year, SKYREAL launched its immersive collaboration solution, a new version of which will be presented at the 2025 edition. Interview with Benjamin Ray, CTO of SKYREAL, who shares what’s new at the startup and how it’s transforming industrial work with immersive technologies.

Can you tell us more about your company?

SKYREAL is a startup that is setting new standards in the use of virtual reality (VR) for modern engineering. Its team is developing a universal platform that leverages existing 3D/CAD data and aims to accelerate the design of tomorrow’s world. SKYREAL offers a metaverse for industries in which engineers immerse themselves to design, collaborate and produce.

What will you exhibit at Laval Virtual?

We’ll be showcasing the latest version (1.20) of our solution, which incorporates CEA List’s XDE physics engine. We will also be presenting the results of our collaborative research with the Grenoble Polytechnic Institute (INP), which will be present at our booth.

Are you planning any activities or demos at your booth?

We’re planning to come to Laval with a number of demos. First of all, a demo of the integration of XDE Physics into SKYREAL, featuring training involving cable simulation. Next, a factory flow simulation experiment with procedural generation of a 3D view (thanks to PCG technology available on Unreal Engine 5). And finally, the demo of a collaborative VR work scenario around a PERT view for MBSE use.

Does your company have an upcoming project to share with us and our visitors?

Our XR Center project continues to grow and evolve, becoming an industrial data integrator with the same objective: to simplify collaborative work on 3D data.

To achieve this, it creates a true Data Lake where 3D is central, and includes metadata, models, CAD and documents. This Data Lake forms the basis for immersive collaboration across multiple applications.

In your business sector, how is your solution transforming the field?

Deployed mainly in the aeronautics, space, defense and energy sectors, our solutions enable our industrial customers to increase the value of their CAD data by using it more widely.

We’re convinced that the new features in the new version of Unreal Engine, such as Megalight in conjunction with PCG, will further accentuate this phenomenon. They already enable on-the-fly generation of environments with ever more impressive visual rendering

Sustainability and the environment are key topics of this century. How do you cope with these concerns in your XR technologies?

We’re well aware of the need to change many aspects of industrial design in the interests of environmental sustainability. Faced with this challenge, we are convinced that by offering engineers next-generation tools, they can only improve their designs and thus accelerate the construction of tomorrow’s world.
